At ART TAIPEI 2026, Dynasty Gallery is honored to collaborate with acclaimed Taiwanese photographer LIU Chen-Hsiang, a recent recipient of the Taipei Culture Award, to present Breath · Echoes · In-Between: LIU Chen-Hsiang’s 40 Years with Cloud Gate at Booth B09.
Since 1986, LIU has been invited to photograph Cloud Gate Dance Theatre, marking the beginning of an enduring collaboration that has now spanned four decades. Moving between performances, rehearsals, and behind-the-scenes moments, LIU captures with a sensitive and perceptive eye the fleeting movements of dancers’ bodies—moments so unexpected that they have surprised even the choreographers themselves. As Cloud Gate founder LIN Hwai-Min once remarked, “The countless moments captured by Chen-Hsiang’s shutter make me feel that I have truly lived, and that none of Cloud Gate’s years have been left blank.” What LIU captures extends far beyond the dancers’ movements and gestures. His photographs carry the spirit and collective memories of the works, dancers, and company throughout their shared journey. From the stage to behind the scenes, his forty-year gaze has distilled the evolving faces of Cloud Gate into a remarkable photographic archive.
In addition, Dynasty Gallery will present works by the recently deceased Japanese contemporary art master YAYOI KUSAMA, alongside new works by our long-term collaborating artists LIN Yu-Ching & WEI Hsing-Yu and TSENG Shang-Jie. We warmly invite you to visit Dynasty Gallery at Booth B09 during ART TAIPEI 2026 and experience a carefully curated presentation spanning photography, painting, and sculpture.

LIU Chen-Hsiang
LIU Chen-Hsiang is one of Taiwan’s most prominent photographers. His accolades include the Wu San-Lien Award for Photography, the Outstanding Contribution Award at the Taipei Film Awards, and the Taipei Culture Award. Throughout his career, LIU has devoted himself to photojournalism and performing arts photography, and is particularly renowned for his decades-long collaboration with Cloud Gate Dance Theatre as well as his still photography for films by many of Taiwan’s leading directors.
LIU’s photographic practice is distinguished by a powerful documentary sensibility. During his years working for magazines and newspapers, he brought his camera directly into the streets, continuing to document Taiwanese society during an era when freedom of expression remained restricted. His images offered perspectives distinct from the dominant official narratives of the time and created an invaluable visual record of Taiwan’s democratization.
LIU’s film still photography includes HOU Hsiao-Hsien’s Dust in the Wind, Edward YANG’s The Terrorizers, CHUNG Mong-Hong’s A Sun, and HUANG Hsin-Yao’s The Great Buddha+. Through his distinctive photographic perspective, LIU captures interactions among actors, film crews, and the camera beyond what ultimately appears on screen, leaving behind intimate and invaluable records of the filmmaking process.

TSENG Shang-Jie
TSENG Shang-Jie’s wood sculptures do not pursue the precise reproduction of physical forms; instead, they seek to reinterpret sensations, emotions, and states of mind. TSENG approaches his three-dimensional works through the perspective of painting, which he believes allows him to more directly express his perception of the world.
Layers of pigment interact with the unpredictable marks left by carving, while sections of painted surfaces are subsequently carved away, creating an ambiguous interplay between addition and subtraction. This process echoes TSENG’s understanding of carving as an inherently subtractive practice while exploring the shifting boundary between the tangible and the imagined.
At ART TAIPEI 2026, TSENG will present new works from his Swinger series. At first glance, the series may resemble an observational study of urban youth of his generation; in fact, the figures originate from fleeting glimpses of passersby on the street, expanded through the artist’s imagination into sculptural portraits of contemporary life.

LIN & WEI
LIN Yu-Ching and WEI Hsing-Yu have worked collaboratively for nearly two decades. Through the meticulous distribution of colors and forms, the artists establish a sense of equilibrium within compositions characterized by dense and dynamic rhythms, creating a balanced visual ecosystem.
Recurring objects and motifs connect individual works across their practice, lending their compositions a simultaneity reminiscent of ancient murals, where extended narratives unfold across a single wall. Viewers are invited to take in the entire scene at once while simultaneously wandering through its intricate details.
Their recurring central character, “Wulala,” functions almost as an alter ego of the artists. Appearing repeatedly throughout their works, Wulala serves as a guide, leading viewers through the poetic and imaginative worlds created by LIN and WEI and inviting them to explore freely.
